Well I’ve managed to hold out for six weeks without talking to much about my favourite team the Buffalo Bills but I can hold out no longer after such a great result this week against the Minnesota Vikings.
Welcome to my week seven round up guys and girls, as mentioned we are starting things off at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo as the Bills played host to the Vikings. This season the Bills have had a great record against teams from the NFC North by winning both of their previous games against Detroit and Chicago.
On paper the Vikings are the worst team in the NFC North both record wise and talent wise as well I would say but you can never take anything for granted as I mentioned last week. The game started with Minnesota taking the opening kick off. On their first drive Minnesota only managed to gain 20 yards before having to punt the ball back to the Bills.
The next drive saw Buffalo moving the ball confidently down the field until after making a 10 yard reception deep in Vikings territory Chris Hogan fumbled the ball and gifted it back to the Vikings at their own 12 yard line. It’s a good thing that Buffalo has such a great defence as once again they forced the Vikings to Punt before they managed to get own their own half.
Unfortunately for us Bills fans what happened next was very much deja-vu or a glitch in the Matrix, whichever way you want to look at it really as we looked like we were going to move the ball well until Robert Woods fumbled at the Buffalo 19 yard line. Minnesota capitalized on the turnover with three points of the boot of Blair Walsh.
The game continued this trend of four and outs and turnovers so we skip ahead now to the fourth quarter and the Bills found themselves 16 - 10 down with just over three minutes left on the clock. What followed was some intense drama and not to mention a breathtaking catch from Chris Hogan, check out the highlights by clicking on the picture below:
Now we move onto something slightly different as I often feel like I give you too many game run downs so lets focus on one of the great players to ever take the field and his record breaking achievement from this week.
The player I am referring too is Peyton Manning, quarterback for the Denver Broncos. It is fair to say that he is the most prolific quarterback in NFL history as he holds the record for most touchdowns thrown in a season (55) and most passing yards in a single season at 5477 yards, both records set last year.
Not only does he hold both of the above records but after this week against the San Francisco 49ers he now holds the record for most career passing touchdowns at 510 touchdowns. He has surpassed the likes of John Elway, Dan Marino and Brett Favre who used to hold the record at 508. I think it only fair for you to sit back, grab a refreshing beverage and enjoy all 55 of his touchdown passes from last year:
While we are thinking about record breakers, I want to take a minute to acknowledge another record that was broken this week and that is the most consecutive games with a hundred yards to start a season. The record was previously held by one of the best running backs to ever play the game and that is great Jim Brown.
Now when you think of all the great backs in the league at the moment you could quite easily think this record was broken by Arian Foster, Marshawn Lynch, Jamaal Charles but no, it was Dallas Cowboy DeMarco Murray who set the record of seven 100 yard rushing games to start the season. Congratulations to him, he is just playing some great ball right now!

I think the most surprising result for me this week was the St Louis victory over Seattle and boy did it have a spectacular finish to it. You all need to check out the highlights below and see if you agree with the referees decision at the end???
For those out there that may have thought I was just talking nonsense when I was talking about the Madden cover curse, do you believe now??
This week also saw the second pinktober joint scrimmage between two local flag American Football teams, the Northampton Phantoms and Aylesbury Vale Spartans. During both sessions spirits have been very high and both teams have showed what flag football is all about, community spirit and a passion for the game!
Finally I want to finish off this week by reminding everyone that week eight sees the NFL return to Wembley Stadium with the Atlanta Falcons taking on the Detroit Lions. There will be plenty going on during the week and on Saturday NFL fans from around Europe will descend upon Trafalgar Square for the fan rally which will see players from both teams along with some NFL Alumni. This is always a great event and normally includes an autograph tent giving fans the chance to meet so true legends of the game.
If you would like more of a round-up of all the games from this week then check out our podcast ‘Spitball’ when it’s released later in the week. Until next time football fans stay safe, take care and ‘Thanks for Stopping By’.
